Case #:CC_MOD09_09030   Opening date: 01/30/09   Last update: 02/03/09
Status: Note
The cloud flags in MOD09Q1 are set to indicate clear conditions, even for pixels which are obviously cloudy. The first image, a subset of MOD09Q1 band 2 reflectances from tile h11v08, day 2008253, shows a region of pixels that appear cloud-covered. The second image shows that the cloud flags for this entire region are set to clear. (The blue color indicates pixels flagged as cloudy.) For comparison, a subset of the MOD09A1 band 2 reflectances for the same region of tile h11v08, day 2008253, is shown in the third image, and the cloud flags for this area of the MOD09A1 data are shown in the fourth image. (The blue color in the fourth image indicates clear conditions, cyan indicates partly cloudy conditions, and white indicates pixels flagged as cloudy.)

NOTE: The cloud flags in MOD09Q1 are deliberately not populated. Users are directed to use the data state flag from MOD09A1 in to obtain a cloud mask for use with MOD09Q1 data.
